At White Stag Construction, we take pride in turning visions into living spaces — and the Breezeway Outdoor Kitchen is a perfect example of how a simple idea can evolve into something truly transformative.
This client, referred to us by one of our trusted subcontractors, initially reached out with a request to build an outdoor kitchen in her backyard. From day one, she had a clear vision: a built-in gas grill, a cozy fire feature, and a space that felt like an extension of her home.
Listening First, Then Designing
We began by meeting with the homeowner to understand her needs and preferences. Once we had her wishlist in hand, we created preliminary sketches — which she quickly approved. From there, we handled all HOA and city permitting.
Setting the Stage
Because the kitchen was going into the backyard, our first on-site task was to reroute the existing sprinkler system. We then formed and poured a new 18' x 20' slab as the foundation for the structure. Gas and electrical lines were trenched and roughed in — with gas stub-outs in place for the grill and fire feature.
A Pavilion With Craftsmanship in Every Detail
The main structure was built from stained cedar and included custom-cut corbels for a distinct and elegant touch. We finished the ceiling with stained tongue-and-groove siding and enclosed one wall in beautiful Austin stone veneer. That same stone was carried through to wrap the cedar posts (3’ high with caps), the fire feature, and the lower cabinets — giving the entire pavilion a warm, cohesive look.
Built to Function
We framed custom outdoor cabinets and sheathed them with concrete board to ensure fire resistance near the grill and fire feature. Stainless steel vents were installed for safety and durability, along with a stainless-steel access door, drawers for storage, and an undercounter refrigerator.
Topping it all off was a granite countertop complete with pop-up power outlets — perfect for entertaining. We added an outdoor ceiling fan and installed string lighting around the pavilion to create an inviting atmosphere for evenings outdoors. Once all the appliances were hooked up and tested, the space was fully functional and ready to enjoy.
Flexibility and Responsiveness
Midway through the project, the homeowner asked us to demolish a storage building in the backyard. We took care of it — hauling off the debris, rerouting sprinkler heads, bringing in topsoil, and grading the area to seamlessly match the rest of the yard.
We also had one hiccup: a board fell during construction and cracked a window on the home. We took full responsibility and replaced it at no cost to the homeowner — part of our commitment to doing things the right way.
Grateful Client (and a Repeat Customer)
The finished space impressed not only the homeowner but also her guests. She was so pleased with the quality and efficiency of the work that she immediately hired us to remodel her master bathroom. Here’s what she had to say:
“White Stag Construction recently completed 2 projects at my home. Both projects were finished right on budget and ahead of schedule! Sam is an excellent contractor and his subs are very good. I had a pavilion built in my backyard several months ago and their attention to detail really impressed me. They also remodeled my master bathroom. I really expected it to take a couple of months, but they had it done in half that time. It turned out really beautiful and I’m so thankful that I chose them to do the work for me.”
At White Stag Construction, we don’t just build structures—we shape spaces around the people who use them. From first sketch to final polish, this project reflects what happens when thoughtful design meets skilled execution and clear communication.
